Lipodystrophy is characterized by altered partition of adipose tissue.

Etiology

- genetic diseases (congenital generalized lipodystrophy)

  • Dunnigan-type familial partial lipodystrophy (FPLD) and partial lipodystrophy type A: mutations in LMNA gene coding for nuclear membrane lamin-A/C
  • mandibuloacral dysplasia-associated lipodystrophy.

- autoimmune diseases
- drug-induced lipodystrophy
- metabolic disorders

  • insulin resistance
  • hyperlipidemia
  • diabetes
