Mucinous adenocarcinomas of the thymus

Synopsis

- islands and strips of tumor cells floating in large pools of extracellular mucin
- numerous psammoma bodies

- dilated glands, cords
- small nests infiltrating the thymic cyst wall
- mucin production

Immunohistochemistry

- positive for cytokeratin (CK) 7
- negative for CD5

Associations

- thymic cyst with areas of transition from benign to dysplastic epithelium

Differential diagnosis

- malignant mediastinal tumors
