Definition: digestive meconial obstruction.

Meconium ileus (MI) is defined as the intraluminal inspissation of protein-rich viscid meconium in the small intestine, is the most common gastrointestinal manifestation of cystic fibrosis.

MI can be simple or complicated by volvulus or ischemia of the dilated proximal ileal segment with subsequent intestinal necrosis, jejunoileal atresia or ileal perforation with meconium peritonitis.
