amyloid P component

Definition: Stacks of pentagonal donut-shaped proteins consisting of serum amyloid P (SAP) which are related to the acute phase reactants: Serum amyloid A (SAA) and C-reactive protein (CRP) both being synthesized in the liver. This component contributes to the stability of the amyloid fibrils (beta-fibrils).
