aflatoxin-M1

Aflatoxins are toxic and carcinogenic to animals, including humans. After entering the body, aflatoxins are metabolized by the liver to an intermediate reactive, aflatoxin-M1, an epoxide. The metabolite aflatoxin-M1 can intercalate into DNA and alkylate the bases through its epoxide moiety. L’aflatoxin mycotoxin binds to the N7 position of guanine.
