ECMO

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has become an established mode of therapy in many centers for potentially fatal neonatal respiratory failure refractory to conventional therapy.

Synopsis

- pulmonary interstitial hemorrhages
- pulmonary alveolar hemorrhages
- alveolar hyaline membranes
- reactive epithelial hyperplasia

  • bronchial
  • type II pneumocytes

- squamous metaplasia
- smooth muscle hyperplasia
- interstitial fibrosis

- pulmonary calcifications

  • alveolar calcifications
  • bronchiolar calcifications
