sympathetic hearing loss

Definition: Damage to one inner ear occasionally followed by contralateral sensorineural hearing loss. It is hypothesized that autoimmunity can play a role in the pathogenesis of sympathetic hearing loss organospecific (autoimmunity directed to cochlear outer hair cells).
