Types
low grade
simple flat urothelial dysplasia / / low-grade flat urothelial dysplasia
The urothelial lining is somewhat thickened consisting of 8 to 10 layers of cells.
There is loss of polarity with minimal nuclear pleomorphism, nuclear enlargement and hyperchromasia.
Mitotic activity is not increased.
There is no inflammation to account for these cytologic changes.
The degree of atypia is not (...) -

flat lesion with atypia of unknown significance
12 April 2017Also known as low grade intraurothelial neoplasia (LG IUN) PO
Synopsis
atypia between reactive and dysplasia
more pleomorphism and hyperchromasia than expected for the amount of inflammation present
Recommend close follow up and reevaluation after inflammation subsides

Low-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma shows minimal cytologic and architectural atypia. Adjacent papillary fronds may fuse.
In a low-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma, the presence of scattered hyperchromatic nuclei and typical mitotic figures distinguish this lesion from the PUNLMP.

papillary urothelial hyperplasia
19 February 2017Definition: The urothelial lining is arranged in finger-like papillary formations enclosing a fibrovascular core. The urothelium may be thickened but lacks cytologic atypia.
Papillary urothelial hyperplasia is most frequently encountered in patients with a prior history of a papillary urothelial neoplasm.
