Oncocytic medullary carcinomas can be difficult to recognise. These lesions usually have a nesting or insular architecture and the cells are polygonal rather than having the spindle shaped morphology of the usual variant.
The nuclei resemble neuroendocrine nuclei (round to oval with salt and pepper chromatin).

cribriform morular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma
25 October 2019CMV-PTC
The cribriform morular variant is associated with APC mutations, as found in familial adenomatous polyposis. The prognosis is similar to conventional papillary carcinoma.
PTC, cribriform morular variant has tall cells, nuclei with grooves and pseudoinclusions typical of PTC, and squamoid metaplasia. The cribriform morular variant is associated with APC mutations, as found in familial adenomatous polyposis. The prognosis is similar to conventional papillary (...) -

follicular thyroid tumors
14 November 2018thyroid tumors with follicular architecture
Definition: Thyroid tumors with follicular architecture encompass a considerable array of distinct entities. These lesions share significant morphologic overlap, but portend different prognostic and therapeutic implications.
Due to their similar growth patterns, distinction between these tumors can be difficult; remarkable interobserver variability exists, even between expert endocrine pathologists.

anaplastic thyroid carcinoma
17 June 2017Molecular biology
Mutations in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma: p53 (70%), beta-catenin (60%) and ras (50%). If the carcinoma has BRAF V600E, then it is arising from papillary thyroid carcinoma.
