Thoracic Myoepithelial Tumor
Definition: Thoracic myoepithelial tumors (MTs) are a rare group of tumors showing predominant or exclusive myoepithelial differentiation.
In a study, gene rearrangements were identified in half of the cases, with EWSR1-PBX1, EWSR1-ZNF444, and FUS-KLF17 fusions identified. No cases were found to have HMGA2 or PLAG1 abnormalities.
Compared with fusion-negative tumors, fusion-positive tumors tended to occur in patients who were younger (50 vs. 58 y), female (...)

thoracic epithelioid malignant vascular tumor
23 January 2015Malignant thoracic epithelioid vascular tumors are an uncommon and heterogenous group of tumors that include low-grade to intermediate-grade epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) and high-grade epithelioid angiosarcoma (EAS).
FISH
Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis showed CAMTA1-WWTR1 fusions in 4/7 low-grade and 23/23 intermediate-grade EHE (P -
ectopic hepatocellular carcinoma
23 January 2015Ectopic liver is a rare developmental error, mostly diagnosed incidentally. This lesion appears to have an increased potential for the development of hepatoma in the absence of malignancy in the mother liver.

thoracic mesothelial cyst
13 September 2012Thoracic mesothelial cysts
Thoracic mesothelial cysts are generally made up of a capsule of fibrous tissue with an inner single-cell layer of mesothelial cells.
The most common type of mesothelial cyst found in the mediastinum is the pleuropericardial cyst, which is generally located at the anterior cardiophrenic angle.
Other mesothelial cysts occurring in the mediastinum are simple mesothelial cysts and lymphogenous (...) -
thoracic liposarcoma
27 August 2012Liposarcomas of the mediastinum and thorax
Liposarcoma rarely occurs in the thiorax.
The mediastinum shows a preponderance of uncommon subtypes and unusual morphologic variants.
Correct classification has important implications, with most patients with well-differentiated/dedifferentiated liposarcoma having a protracted clinical course, in contrast to the more rapid disease progression seen in patients with myxoid and pleomorphic liposarcoma.
Types
well-differentiated liposarcoma (...) -
intrathoracic glial implants
13 February 2012Glial peritoneal implants, commonly referred to as gliomatosis peritonei, are an occasional feature of ovarian teratomas.
They are benign nodules of mature glial tissue and usually do not adversely affect outcome.
Pleural gliomatosis has been rarely described in the literature. (#19735831#)
The pathophysiology of gliomatosis peritonei was originally thought to be the direct extrusion or lymphatic spread of glial cells from the associated teratoma, although it has been postulated that the (...) -

presternal ciliated cyst
6 June 2011The location and histologic features of a presternal ciliated cyst favor a primitive foregut origin for this cyst, probably via the process of embryonic sequestration and migration.
