Under typical conditions, the normal synovial lining may not be visible or is barely visible. When synovial hypertrophy is present, it covers the joint, often altering the normal contour of the joint capsule.
Normally, the joint capsule follows joint anatomy, but it may bulge outward when there is synovial hypertrophy, and it may even change from a concave to a convex shape.
The synovial thickness has a huge span, ranging from very minimal hypertrophy to severe hypertrophy with villi, (...)

synovial lipoma
13 November 2012PO
Definition: Synovial lipomatosis is a pesudotumorous lesion of the synovium, with distinct histomorphology, possibly resulting from inappropriate fat deposition and degenerative articular diseases of the joints.
Synovial lipomatosis is an uncommon tumor-like lesion of the synovium, usually affecting the suprapatellar pouch of the knee joints.
Synovial lipomatosis commonly affects adults. The lesions predominantly occurred in older age groups and the median age was found to be 50 (...) -

sarcoidosis-associated granulomatous synovitis
10 November 2010Definition : Granulomatous synovitis is a type of synovial sarcoidosis and is rarely observed in sarcoidosis in child and the inherited disease Blau syndrome which is characterized clinically by granulomatous polyarthritis, uveitis and an exanthematous skin rash.
Blau syndrome is due to mutation in gene coding for capase recruitment domain-15.
Etiology (Examples)
Blau syndrome

Definition: Intra-articular lipoma arborescens (LA) is a fatty infiltration of subsynovial connective tissue in a large joint. It rarely affects synovial sheaths of tendons.
It is a rare entity that can present with monoarticular or polyarticular involvement of joints such as knees, ankles, (...) -

Chronic Synovitis in Lyme Disease (WebPathology)
Definition: Lyme disease is a multisystems infectious disorder caused by the spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi. Infection occurs by ticks feeding on mammalian hosts, including humans. The distribution of the tick and spirochete is world-wide and is especially prevalent where there are large deer populations.
Stages
The disease is seen in three stages:
Stage I is a cutaneous rash (erythema chronicum migrans) consisting of (...) -

Definition: Synovitis is the medical term for inflammation of the synovial membrane or synovium. Synovitis is observed in arthritis .
The synovial membrane lines joints that possess cavities, known as synovial joints.
The condition is usually painful, particularly when the joint is moved. The joint usually swells due to synovial fluid collection.
Synovitis may occur in association with arthritis as well as lupus, gout, and other conditions.
Synovitis is (...) -
