MUTYH-associated polyposis carcinomas
29 November 2011Genetic instability is known to drive colorectal carcinogenesis. Generally, a distinction is made between two types of genetic instability: chromosomal instability (CIN) and microsatellite instability (MIN or MSI). Most CIN tumours are aneuploid, whereas MSI tumours are considered near-diploid.
However, for MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP) the genetic instability involved in the carcinogenesis remains unclear, as near-diploid adenomas, aneuploid adenomas and near-diploid carcinomas have (...) -

myenteric hyperganglionosis
29 November 2011Etiology:
diffuse intestinal myenteric hyperganglionosis The diffuse intestinal myenteric hyperganglionosis is characterized by hyperplastic ganglia throughout the large and small intestine, associated with severe constipation. The hyperganglionosis is associated with immunohistochemical findings of intact expression of the neuropeptides controlling the peristaltic reflex, through lower expression of calcitonin-gene related peptide. digestive ganglioneuromatosis
29 November 2011PTEN
Phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) is a phosphatase that is critical for controlling cell growth, proliferation and cell death.
A recent study of Pten knockout mice showed evidence of ganglioneuromatosis in the ENS suggesting a role for this protein in ENS development.
Ganglioneuromatosis patients have also been shown to have a decreased level of Pten expression in the colon.
There is a marked reduction of Pten expression in the myenteric and submucous (...)
