  Cervical cone biopsy has become an important surgical procedure for endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), especially for patients who desire to retain their fertility.

  A squamous metaplasia can sometimes be found in the endocervix, as it is composed of simple columnar epithelium, whereas the ectocervix is composed of stratified squamous non-keratinized epithelium.
  Squamous Metaplasia represents focal or extensive replacement of the mucus-secreting glandular epithelium by stratified squamous epithelium, the pathogenesis of this process, also known as prosoplasia .
