Plexiform angiomyxoid myofibroblastic tumour is a recently described new entity of a presumably benign mesenchymal gastric tumour.
The tumour is characterised by bland spindle cells in a plexiform pattern, a mucinous extracellular matrix and a network of thin blood vessels.
There is a strong positivity for alpha-smooth muscle actin and a low proliferation index (<2%).
The tumour had no C-KIT or CD34 expression and no mutation in the C-KIT and PDFGRalpha genes.

Zollinger–Ellison syndrome-associated gastric carcinoid tumor
5 May 2009Between 5 and 10 percent of gastric carcinoids are associated with the Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.
Like carcinoids associated with CAG-A, carcinoids associated with the Zollinger–Ellison syndrome are thought to arise from enterochromaffin-like cells in patients with hypergastremia and are associated with hyperplasia of surrounding enterochromaffin-like cells.
Carcinoids associated with the Zollinger–Ellison syndrome occur almost exclusively in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type (...) -

Definition: Neuroendocrine neoplasms arising from enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells measuring more than 0.5 mm of diameter in size or invading submucosa
Originating from the histamine-containing enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells of the embryologic foregut, gastric carcinoid tumors represent approximately 1.8% of all gastric neoplasms and approximately 7% of all carcinoids.
Because they are most often discovered incidentally during endoscopy, the incidence of (...) -
