Howell-Jolly body-like inclusions in neutrophils https://twitter.com/KyleBradleyMD/status/7368931611597250
Howell-Jolly–like bodies in granulocytes arise secondary to stressed granulopoiesis induced by immunosuppressive drugs, viral infection, or chemotherapy, and must be differentiated from other neutrophil inclusions such as those observed in intracellular bacterial infections, genetic conditions such as Chédiak-Higashi syndrome, or Döhle bodies [Arch Pathol Lab Med. They are a type of inclusion body formed by phagosomes that have engulfed excessive amounts of iron. They appear as dense, blue-purple granules within the red blood cell and there are usually only one or two, located in the cell periphery.
They are seen in diseases such as sideroblastic (...) -

NPM1-mutated acute myeloid leukemia
8 July 2015NPM1-mutated acute myeloid leukemia encompasses ∼60% of patients with normal karyotype acute myeloid leukemia.
Minimal residual disease
Detection of minimal residual disease predicts adverse outcome in patients with acute myeloid leukemia. Currently, minimal residual disease may be detected by RQ-PCR or flow cytometry, both of which have practical and diagnostic limitations.
Detection of minimal residual disease in NPM1-mutated acute myeloid leukemia can also be made by next-generation (...) -
Trousseau syndrome
28 August 2013Trousseau’s syndrome (TS), named after the French physician Armand Trousseau who first described it in 1865, refers to recurrent or migratory spontaneous venous thrombosis, arterial embolism due to non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis, or both, in a patient with known or occult malignancy which is usually difficult to diagnose and may even remain elusive until it is disclosed in an autopsy.
Thrombosis can occur from months to years before cancer is known, and a negative thorough initial (...) -
Persistent polyclonal B-cell lymphocytosis is...
15 July 2013Persistent polyclonal B-cell lymphocytosis is a rare, benign lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by a stable, polyclonal CD19-positive CD5-negative lymphocytosis, the presence of binucleated lymphocytes in peripheral blood, and a polyclonal increase in serum immunoglobulin-M that may occasionally be accompanied by splenomegaly.
Histopathologic diagnosis of these splenectomy specimens is difficult because of the massive spleen infiltration and the rarity of the descriptions of this (...) -
