Eastern Africa
Tanzanians have high genetic diversity and possess ancient mtDNA haplogroups, some of which are either rare (L0d and L5) or absent (L0f) in other regions of Africa. A large and diverse human population could have persisted in eastern Africa and that eastern Africa may have been an ancient source of dispersion of modern humans both within and outside of Africa.

12 May 2007Two main Y-chromosome haplogroups were found in the population of Sao Tome e Principe (STP) archipelago:
haplogroup-E3a is very common among sub-Saharans and accounts for 84.2% of the paternal lineages
haplogroup-R1b is typical of West Eurasia and represents 8.7% of the overall male population.
Nevertheless, a significant heterogeneous distribution of R1b has been detected among the two main ethnic groups of the archipelago: Forros (10.3%) and Angolares (6.6%).
Together, haplogroups (...) -
