incipient IPMN
19 October 2016incipient IPMNs
Incipient intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are poorly described subcentimeter pancreatic cysts with papillae and mucin similar to IPMNs.
They are larger than pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia but do not meet the cutoff size for IPMNs (≥ 1 cm).

pancreatic mucinous non-neoplastic cyst
16 October 2016mucinous non-neoplastic cyst of the pancreas; MNNC
Although a mucinous nonneoplastic cyst (MNNC) of the pancreas is defined as a benign nonneoplastic lesion with no malignant potential, its histogenesis and etiology are still uncertain.
Although the genomic mutation rate detected in MNNC is relatively low, some results indicate that MNNCs may acquire genetic alteration similar to low-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia, furthering debate of the true nature of these lesions.

In a study, 5/23 samples cytologically confirmed as adenocarcinoma showed detectable mutations both in the microdissected slide-based cytology cells and in the cytocentrifugation supernatant. (#24051700#)
While most mutations detected were present in both microdissected slides and supernatant (...) -

Normal ductal and ductular epithelium
The normal ductal and ductular epithelium is a cuboidal to low-columnar epithelium with amphophilic cytoplasm. Mucinous cytoplasm, nuclear crowding and atypia are not seen.
Types
squamous metaplasia (transitional metaplasia)
a process in which the normal cuboidal ductal epithelium is replaced by mature squamous or transitional epithelium without atypia.
