FSCN1

Fascin-1 (FSCN1 or fascin) is an actin-bindling protein that plays an important role in cell motility and adhesion. Fascin-1 is expressed by dendritic cells in the blood and in tissues. The level of fascin-1 is low or undetectable in normal epithelial cells.

Expression in tumors

Fascin is expressed in many neoplasms including colorectal cancer. It is considered to be a mediator of tumor cell invasion and an indicator of aggressive phenotype; however, there are few reports on the association between fascin and prognosis in colorectal cancer.

Pathology

- Overexpression of FSCN1 is reported in transformed epithelial cells and in several common types of carcinomas.
- An association is suggested between increased fascin-1 expression and increased invasiveness of carcinomas in the urinary bladder. (#16084942#)
