Neurofibromatoses comprise two autosomal dominant disorders, affecting approximately 100,000 people in the United States. They are referred to as neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)(previously called von Recklinghausen disease) and neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) (previously called acoustic neurofibromatosis).
