Synopsis

- sloughing off of renal tubular cells
- flattened and regenerating epithelium

  • Tubular necrosis can occur in isolation, or with associated glomerular necrosis (the combination is called cortical necrosis)

Etiology

- renal ischemia (often zones of injury)

  • endotoxinic shock

- toxics (individual cell injury / blebbing / degeneration / apoptosis)

  • mycotoxins
