CLINICAL FEATURES:

- peak incidence 3rd decade
- most often located on extremities, especially thigh
- women more than men
- symmetric, heavily pigmented, sharply circumscribed
- papule or nodule
- history of recent onset

DIFFERENTIAL:

- dysplastic nevus
- lentiginous or pagetoid melanoma
- Spitz nevus
