Definition : Infection by Malassezia furfur, often of upper trunk.
Synopsis
Variably pigmented macules of all sizes,
orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis
yeast spores and pseudohyphae within stratum corneum
Short hyphae and spores (spaghetti and meatballs) with GMS or PAS stains
Differential diagnosis
presence of fungi does not rule out coexisting inflammatory and neoplastic disorders
