Definition : Microinvasion within borderine tumors is defined by small stromal foci of single cells / small clusters of cells, occasionally cribriform or rounded aggregates of papillae with eosinophilic cytoplasm and minimal / absent stromal reaction.
The invasive epithelium may be up to 10 mm2 or 3 mm in greatest dimension (Mod Pathol 1988;1:407).
There may be diffusely scattered invasive foci without discrete aggregates - must sample well (Hum Pathol 1996;27:521, Hum Pathol 1990;21:397)
It has yhe same prognosis as a ovarian serous borderline tumor.
