degenerescence

Definition: The meaning of degeneration is poorly defined, but can be described as the change of a biological structure from a primitive initial state to an altered and dysfunctional state.

It can also be seen as the organism’s change from a initial complex stae to a simpler, less differentiated form.

It has been widely used in sociology and psychology by the degeneration theory , and in this respect, it is associated with 19th century conceptions of biological devolution.
