vitellointestinal remnant
Thursday 17 June 2010
Embryonic vitellointestinal duct joins lumen of midgut to yolk sac.
It is usually obliterated early in development, but it can persist as fistula between umbilicus and ileum.
Only parts may persist, as proximal part as Meckel diverticulum or distal part as umbilical sinus, umbilical cyst or umbilical granuloma.
