dermal histiocytic infiltration

Definition: Histiocytic infiltrates of the skin may represent a purely cutaneous phenomenon or they may be a manifestation of a systemic disorder in which proliferation of histiocytes is the prominent feature.

Etiology

- mycobacteriosis

  • immunoddeficiency

- histiocytoses

  • Langerhans histiocytosis
  • non-Langerhans histiocytosis
    • Erdheim-Chester disease

- juvenile xanthogranuloma
- giant cell reticulohistiocytoma
- multicentric reticulohistiocytosis

  • In multicentric reticulohistiocytosis, lesions of destructive arthropathy are also described.
