orbital giant cell fibroblastoma
Wednesday 2 December 2009
Giant cell fibroblastoma, a benign mesenchymal tumor of infancy, is rarely encountered within the orbital region. This lesion is considered to be a distinct, non-metastasizing tumor, but its clinical management may be very difficult, because of its invasive nature and potential for recurrence.
Giant cell fibroblastoma is a phenotypic variant of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans sharing the same COL1A1/PDGFB fusion gene.
