drug-induced hepatocytic pigments
Monday 15 June 2009
Some drugs/toxins such as gold, titanium and thorium dioxide (Thorotrast) can be deposited as pigments in the liver.
Drugs that cause prolonged cholestasis can lead to copper accumulation in periportal hepatocytes.
Lipofuscin, a lysosomal pigment often seen in centrizonal hepatocytes, can be increased with exposure to anticonvulsant drugs such as phenothiazine and phenacetin.
