lipomatosis of nerve
Monday 27 April 2009
It was decided that it would be more appropriate to rename the lesion which as been known as fibrolipomatous hamartoma of nerve as ’lipomatosis of nerve’, in order to recognize that this is essentially an intraneural adipocytic proliferation, albeit sometimes accompanied by a focally fibrous stroma.
This also helps to avoid use of the term ’hamartoma’, which is nowadays much harder to define or defend, since most of the lesions which we have traditionally regarded as hamartomas are in fact monoclonal proliferations.
