Definition: Increased interstitial space with loose appearance and normal thickness tubular basement membranes is generally due to edema.
Differential diagnosis
renal interstitial fibrosis

renal tubules are widely spaced with intervening dense, fibrotic tissue, and TBMs are thick and fibrotic.
