Epithelioid hemangioma is an uncommon vascular tumefaction of uncertain pathogenesis. Past terminology used to describe this process includes atypical or pseudopyogenic granuloma, inflammatory angiomatous nodule, angioblastic (lymphoid) hyperplasia with eosinophilia, angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia, intravenous atypical vascular proliferation, and histiocytoid hemangioma.

The anatomic sites most frequently affected by epithelioid hemangioma are the head (in the distribution of the superficial temporal artery) and the distal portions of the extremities, especially the digits.
