glutamate dehydrogenase
Function
GDH catalyzes the oxidative deamination of glutamate to alpha-ketoglutarate plus ammonia, using NAD or NADP as co-factor. alpha-ketoglutarate is a substrate for the citric acid cycle (or Krebs cycle) in the cell.
dominantly expressed missense mutations in the hyperinsulinism/hyperammonemia syndrome (HI/HA)
