Synopsis
Early stages
marked dilatation in the center of the central vein
marked dilatation of pericentral sinusoids
- dilated sinusoids contain lysed erythrocytes
perivenular fibrosis
periportal regeneration with nodular changes
Late stages
fibrosis and cirrhosis similar to liver in chronic cardiac failure
Differential diagnosis
passive congestion (cardiac failure)
- red cells are not lysed
