Etiology

-  primary
-  secondary

Synopsis

Early stages

-  marked dilatation in the center of the central vein
-  marked dilatation of pericentral sinusoids

-  perivenular fibrosis
-  periportal regeneration with nodular changes

Late stages

-  fibrosis and cirrhosis similar to liver in chronic cardiac failure

Differential diagnosis

-  passive congestion (cardiac failure)
