Synopisis

Vascular changes in small muscular arteries

 concentric intimal or medial hyperplasia with luminal narrowing
 prominent myxoid change of the vascular wall
 extravasated red blood cells
 some foamy histiocytes with no evidence of thrombotic microangiopathy

Complications

 intestinal ischemia
 pulmonary diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) with hemorrhage
