Definition: Dilatation of the renal pelvis and calices due to a urinary obstruction.
Fetal hydronephrosis is the most common cause of an abdominal mass of genitourinary tract origin in neonates.

Etiology
unilateral congenital hydronephrosis
- pelviureteric junction stenosis (most frequent cause)
bilateral congenital hydronephrosis (20%)
Associations
Renal dysplasia

Hydronephrosis - Dilatation of pyelocaliceal cavities. Renal atrophy. Ureteral malformation with megauretere.
