phenotype

Johannsen, 1909. Gk. phainein, to appear.

 

Definition: The phenotype is the appearance of an organism with respect to a particular character or group of characters (physical, biochemical, and physiologic). It is a result of the interaction of its genotype and its environment. This term is often used to define the consequences of a paticular mutation.
