Kala-azar

 
Kala-azar (KA) is a life-threatening protozoal disease caused by Leishmania parasites (L. donovani, L. chagasi, and L. infantum). The disease, which is also called "visceral leishmaniasis," is prevalent in Africa, South America, Asia, and the Mediterranean basin.
