rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory joint disease with a complex etiology in which environmental factors within a genetically susceptible host maneuver the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system toward recognition of autoantigens.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common systemic autoimmune disease, affecting 1% of the adult population worldwide, with an estimated heritability of 60%.

Susceptibility gene

-  HLA-DRB1
-  I kappa BL (MHC class III region) (#12509789#)
-  missense single-nucleotide polymorphism in PTPN22 gene encoding a protein tyrosine phosphatase (#15208781#)
