theca of follicle ; theca folliculi ; follicular theca WKP
Definition : The theca folliculi comprise a layer of the ovarian follicles. They appear as the follicles become secondary follicles.
The theca are divided into two layers, the theca interna and the theca externa.
Theca cells are a group of endocrine cells in the ovary made up of connective tissue surrounding the follicle. They have many diverse functions, including (...)

theca externa
3 MarchWKP
Definition : The theca externa is the outer layer of the theca folliculi. It is derived from connective tissue, the cells resembling fibroblasts, and contains abundant collagen.
During ovulation, the surge in luteinizing hormone increases cAMP which increases progesterone and PGF2α production. The PGF2α induces the contraction of the smooth muscle cells of the theca externa, increasing intrafollicular pressure.
This aids in rupture of the mature oocyte, or immature oocyte at the (...) -
theca interna
3 MarchWKP
Definition : Theca lutein cells are also known as small luteal cells.
Theca interna cells express receptors for luteinizing hormone (LH) to produce androstenedione, which via a few steps, gives the granulosa the precursor for estrogen manufacturing.
After rupture of the mature ovarian follicle, the theca interna cells differentiate into the theca lutein cells of the corpus luteum. Theca lutein cells secrete androgens and (...) -

thyroid gland tissue in ovary
29 April 2020Etiology
struma ovarii / ovarian mature teratoma Struma ovarii represents less than 3% of ovarian teratomas. It can be associated with thyroid biology abnormalities, and in exceptionally rare cases it can be malignant.

ovarian serous borderline tumor, micropapillary variant
11 February 2020low grade serous carcinoma PO
Definition : micropapillary variant ovarian serous borderline tumor.
Ovarian serous borderline tumor, micropapillary variant behaves like low-grade adenocarcinoma. It appears to be derived from serous borderline tumor or adenofibroma. Invasive if destructive infiltrative growth; most are non-invasive.
It recurs as classic serous carcinoma.
Prognosis : 10 year survival is 70% vs. 100% for borderline tumors
