Case 66 (HPC:66) : Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK)
Definition: Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) is a malignant renal tumor of childhood with a propensity to metastasize to bone and other organs. CCSK is linked to internal tandem duplications (ITDs) of the BCOR gene.
This tumor may also recur many years after its initial diagnosis. The average age (...) -

dermatitis herpetiformis
29 June 2004herpetiform dermatitis
Definition: Dermatitis herpetiformis is characterized by papules, vesicles, and occasional bullae on an erythematous, often urticarial base.
Dermatitis herpetiformis is associated with gluten-sensitive enteropathy. It causes small pruritic vesicles.
Histologically it shows papillary neutrophilic microabscesses and a mixed dermal inflammatory infiltrate. DIF shows a granular pattern of IgA in the dermal papillae.

palisading granuloma
29 December 2003palisaded granulomas
Definition: Palisading granulomas are a subtype of necrotizing granuloma in which the mononuclear phagocytes at the periphery have elongated or spindle-shaped nuclei that are palisaded and arranged roughly parallel to each other and roughly perpendicular to the edge of the central necrotic zone.
The most common are rheumatoid nodules and post-surgical necrobiotic granulomas occurring in the prostate, urinary bladder, and other sites.

salivary mucocele
4 April 2005mucocele; labial mucocele
Definition: Mucoceles and mucous retention cysts most often involve the minor salivary glands of the lower lip, buccal mucosa, and floor of the mouth.
Mucoceles lack an epithelial lining and are therefore not true cysts.
They are thought to result from ductal obstruction or trauma and represent accumulation and extravasation of mucus into adjacent tissues.
