Definition: BMP7 is a member of the BMPs protein family and of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily.

BMP7 was shown to counteract transforming growth factor-beta-mediated fibrosis.

BMP7 was recently identified in our genomewide copy number and expression survey as being activated through amplification in breast cancer cell lines.

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) make up a family of extracellular signaling molecules that play a critical role in vertebrate development and both inhibit and stimulate growth in cancer cells.

- In gastric cancer, Bone morphogenetic protein-7 expression is significantly correlated with patient postoperative outcome, especially in the undifferentiated group. (21224856)

  • Multivariate analysis reveals BMP-7 expression as one of the independent prognostic factors next to the depth of invasion and nodal involvement (P@<@0.01).
  • There is a possible regulation of gastric cancer progression by autocrine or paracrine BMP-7 loops. (21224856)
