Definition: Peritoneal inflammation.

Types

- acute peritonitis
- chronic peritonitis

  • granulomatous peritonitis

Etiology

- infectious peritonitis
- peritonitis in pan-serositis

  • metabolic (uremia, cholesterolosis)
  • autoimmune (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid disease, acute rheumatism, endocrinopathies)
  • genetic (recurrent hereditary polyserositis)
  • allergic (eosinophilic serositis)
  • granulomatous peritonitis
