True splenic cysts are a relatively rare disease, and the majority of the cases are classified as splenic epidermoid cysts.

Classification

- primary splenic cysts (true splenic cysts) (presence of cellular lining)

  • splenic epidermoid cyst (splenic metaplastic cyst)
  • splenic mesothelial cyst

- secondary splenic cysts (absence of cellular lining)

  • post-traumatic splenic cyst
  • cystic splenic hematoma
  • splenic pseudocyst
  • splenic hydatid cyst
