fibrous Dupuytren disease

Histologic staging of Dupuytren’s lesions into three types is proposed:
- proliferative palmar fibromatosis : a proliferative type with high cellularity and mitosis,
- fibrocellular palmar fibromatosis : a fibrocellular type characterized by the presence of a reticulin network,
- fibrous palmar fibromatosis : a fibrous type with few cells.

This histologic classification seems to have a prognostic value because the recurrence rate is higher in type I (70%) and lower in type III (18%). The risk of extension did not correlate with the histologic type.
