Definition: Acute basophilic leukemia is rare type of acute myeloid leukemia.

Synopsis

- Phenotype: cell stem origin basophilic precursor
- Epidemiology: very rare but might be prominent in infants
- Clinics:

  • hyperhistaminemia syndrome

Cytology

- major component of undifferentiated blasts
- minor component of basophilic blasts

Variants

- Acute basophilic leukemia (ABL) can arise from chronic myelogenous leukemia with development of t(7;8)(q32;q13). (18328951)

Prognosis

- good response to standard therapy for chilhood ANLL

Cytogenetics

- t(X;6)(p11;q23) (MYB-GATA1 fusion gene)
- t(7;8)(q32;q13)
