bone marrow allograft-associated small muscular arteries vasculopathy (BMA-SMAV)

Synopsis

- vascular changes in small muscular arteries

  • concentric intimal or medial hyperplasia with luminal narrowing
  • prominent myxoid change of the vascular wall
  • extravasated red blood cells
  • some foamy histiocytes with no evidence of thrombotic microangiopathy

Complications

- intestinal ischemia (digestive BMA-SMAV)
- pulmonary diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) with diffuse alveolar hemorrhages (DAH) (pulmonary BMA-SMAV)
